The origins of therapeutic massage are rooted in the common instinctual response to hold and rub a hurt or pain. It is found in all cultures as an integral part of health care and maintenance. Hippocrates, the father of western medicine, considered massage of prime importance in any health regimen.

Galen and the Romans also greatly prized the healing benefits of massage. With the re-emergence of holistic health theories and therapies, therapeutic massage is experiencing a renaissance and is regaining its rightful place among health care practitioners.

Massage Therapy-Miami Treatments:

SWEDISH MASSAGE- When most people think of massage they think of “Swedish massage” Swedish massage is a classic western massage technique which combines kneading and long strokes to improve circulation and that relax and loosen muscles.

The techniques applied in Swedish massage are gentle and rhythmic. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive and tapping movements, usually accompanied by the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin.

Swedish massage shortens recovery time muscular strains by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic waste and it speeds the venous return of un-oxygenated blood and toxins from extremities. Even though the pressured is relatively light, this treatment still has therapeutic benefits including an increased blood flow, increased muscle tone, improved oxygenation to the muscles and of course, relaxation.

For someone who has never had a massage before, Swedish Massage Therapy-Miami provides a great introduction.

SPORTS MASSAGE-Sports massage is a sensible blend of traditional Swedish Massage and Shiatsu.

It was developed by Jack Meager, who is the official masseur for the U. S. Olympic Equestrian Team.

Basic to the system is the fact that there are twelve principle body postures that form the axis of all athletic movement. Each sport demands that the player attains specific postures; hence, each sport tends to strain the muscles at certain predictable points.

Sports massage can help heal strained muscles and allow healthy ones to reach peak action and to maintain it, with less risk of injury. Massage Therapy-Miami is one great option for keeping you from getting injured.

SHIATSU AND SWEDISH MASSAGE INTEGRATION-

Shiatsu Applications is generally performed on a matt, on the floor, to allow the practitioner access to his/her full body weight. The most accurate definition of Shiatsu application is a HOLDING COMPRESSION. That compression may be applied with one's fingers, palms, fist, elbows forearms, knees or feet.

Swedish Application is best performed on a massage table and utilizes a variety of sliding applications( effleurage, pettrisage, deep friction), and therefore requires a lubricant of some sort to accomplish this. One of the primary objectives of Swedish massage is to increase or maximize blood/lymph flow, whereas the primary objective of Shiatsu is to maximize Ki(energy) flow.

Both modalities will in fact affect each of the above objectives, but each modality will probably do a better job with its own.

Shiatsu-Swedish Combined

Even though Shiatsu is best applied on the floor, a practitoner can still take advantage of Shiatsu techniques and integrate them with most other modalities, particularly Swedish. The only big consideration is how to correctly access and utilize the body weight, body mechanics and perpendicular penetration that Shiatsu requires, while working on a massage table.

The practitioner needs to keep the table at an appropriate height for Swedish application, but needs to create some way to shift into Shiatsu mode. This shift is accomplished by using a small platform or chair to get the necessary elevation that Shiatsu requires. Having accomplished this, the practitioner can now switch in and out of each modality as he/she chooses, and yet stay within the guidelines of each discipline. Massage Therapy-Miami can provide you with the right practitioner.

THAI MASSAGE-is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as "nuat phaen boran" (Thai: นวดแผนโบราณ, IPA: [nûət pʰɛ̌ːn boːraːn]), literally, the ancient-manner massage.

In Thailand, Thai massage is one of the branches of Thai traditional medicine (TTM), now recognized and regulated by the government, and is widely considered to be a medical discipline used for the treatment of a wide variety of ailments.

On the other hand, Thai massage is also practiced and taught by a number of non-medical massage technicians in the spa and tourism industries. In North America and Europe, an increasing number of practitioners and teachers of Thai massage have emerged since the 1990s. In Europe and the United States, Thai massage is a growing modality among clients of massage clinics and massage therapists seeking continuing education.
